If you need to fight a wide variety of bacterial infections, you may be prescribed the macrolide antibiotic drug called zithromax. The antibiotic may be used to treat infections of the ears, skin or soft tissue, lower or upper airways (bronchitis, pneumonia), and nasal throat, nasal passages or sinuses such as tonsillitis or sinusitis. Zithromax may also be prescribed to treat a sexually transmitted infection called chlamydia.

How It Works

Zithromax fights infections by killing bacteria and preventing their growth by preventing bacteria from creating essential proteins. The bacteria can’t grow or replicate without these proteins. One advantage of the antibiotic is the fact that zithromax does not interfere with the proteins created by the body. Zithromax stops infections from spreading and enables the immune system to kill off any remaining bacteria.

Benefits Of Zithromax

• Extended release formula
• Requires less treatment time
• Fights bacterial infections
• Fewer side effects than other antibiotic medications

Taking Zithromax

Zithromax is available by injection, 250 mg or 500 mg tablets or powder for oral suspension. To treat skin and lung infections, most adults will be prescribed two 250 mg tablets on the first day then one 250 mg tablet taken every day for 4 more days. Individuals who have an HIV infection and are trying to prevent MAC infections are usually prescribed 1,200 mg taken once a week.
Children are normally prescribed zithromax according to their body weight. They will normally take the drug for 1, 3 or 5 days, depending on the required dosage.

You may take zithromax with our without food, but eating may prevent a stomach ache. If you are suffering from a pelvic inflammatory disease or severe pneumonia, you may receive zithromax by injection. Make sure to continue taking all of the medication, even if you begin to feel better. Never take a double dose if you happen to miss one.

Possible Side Effects

Most people can take zithromax without experiencing any side effects. However, certain individuals may experience minor side effects such as stomach pain, vomiting, upset stomach, loose stools, nausea or headaches while taking zithromax.

Bacteria are single-celled creatures with tiny flagella. Bacteria are alive. They are very small organisms, often only a single cell. Bacteria need to get energy, and may emit toxins or waste products. By comparison, viruses are much smaller, and are not exactly "alive" in the normal sense. more
