Written by WWarren on 10/03/2009 02:04:00 AM

Zithromax or generically known as Azithromycin is a derivate of erythromycin and a subclass of macrolide antibiotics. It is considered to be one of the most widely used antibiotics worldwide. Zithromax tablets should be stored between 15 to 30 degrees C (59 to 86 degrees F). Store constituted suspension between 5 to 30 degrees C (41 to 86 degrees F) and discard when full dosing is completed or within 10 days. Zithromax (azithromycin) is a prescription drug that can be used to treat bronchitis, lung, ear and skin infections, throat infections, sexually transmitted diseases, and other conditions as recommended by your health care provider. Follow the directions of your health care provider and do not take more of this medicine than recommended as the bacteria can become resistant to the effects of Zithromax.

Azithromycin is also recommended by the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention for the treatment of chlamydial genital tract infection in pregnant women, because it is better tolerated in pregnancy than is erythromycin. Azithromycin is derived from erythromycin; however, it differs chemically from erythromycin in that a methyl-substituted nitrogen atom is incorporated into the lactone ring. Its molecular formula is C38H72N2O12, and its molecular weight is 749.0. Azithromycin 1% ophthalmic solution was administered twice daily for first two days followed by once daily for the remaining 3 days. Tobramycin ophthalmic solution was administered four times daily for the entire 5 days.

Azithromycin is in FDA category B for pregnancy, which means it is not expected to harm the foetus. However, you should plan your pregnancy only after talking to your doctor. Azithromycin will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu. Take azithromycin on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Azithromycin comes as a tablet and oral suspension (liquid) to take by mouth. It is usually taken with or without food once a day for 1-5 days.

This  drug is available on a compassionate use basis to people who have failed or are intolerant to pyrimethamine , sulfadiazine , or clindamycin . Azithromycin, the prototype azalide, is a macrolide derivative with a broad antimicrobial spectrum including enhanced activity against Haemophilus influenzae relative to erythromycin. Its distinctive pharmacokinetic profile is characterised by extensive and prolonged tissue distribution accompanied by low serum drug concentrations. Azithromycin is a new macrolide antibiotic, structurally modified from erythromycin and noted for its activity against some gram-negative organisms associated with respiratory tract infections, particularly Haemophilus influenzae .

Mechanisms of action include suppressing growth of PA, reducing the production of inflammatory mediators, and acting in immunomodulation . Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take this drug at the same time each day if taken daily.

Patients with a carmine hypersensitivity should actively check with their pharmacy or prescribing physician to verify their medications are free of this offending agent. Patients were contacted at one, three, and six weeks, and at three, six, nine, and twelve months.

About Bacterial Infections

Bacterial Infections

Bacteria are single-celled creatures with tiny flagella. Bacteria are alive. They are very small organisms, often only a single cell. Bacteria need to get energy, and may emit toxins or waste products. By comparison, viruses are much smaller, and are not exactly "alive" in the normal sense. more
